Project 2A: Production Shoot

In this project, we need to film a total of 4 scenes with 7 shots. Mr. Martin has given us example video clips from "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" for reference. Additionally, he has provided a storyboard for each scene, detailing the shot sizes and dialogues.

We were randomly assigned to groups and after some discussions, we decided on the role allocations. We received a brief explanation of each role and its tasks to ensure we know exactly what to do on shooting day.

As the director, I collaborated with my assistant director to plan the timetable for our shooting scenes. This careful planning is important to ensure that the shooting would proceed according to schedule and avoid wasting time. In fact, everyone arrived early on the day of the shoot to set up and get ready.

Our group has also meticulously assisted Art Director, Khu Ying Ying to plan out the costumes, props, and makeup needed for different scenes to ensure that we are thoroughly prepared on shooting day. We have carefully considered each aspect to guarantee that everything aligns with our vision and runs smoothly during the shoot.
In the Week 7, we were taught on how to film using all the shooting equipment, lighting and Mr.Martin was beside guiding us.These are the Timelapse video of our group production shoot:

After the shooting, we exported the video clips and audio then filtered and organised it in our shared drive.

After completing our shooting, Mr. Martin instructed us to download the footage and audio provided by our producer and to edit a draft with synchronized dialogue. The arrangement of the video clips does not need to follow the given storyboard. We will need this rough cut ready for color correction and grading in the next class.

Since this scene 1 shot 1 was a bit shaky, I applied a warp stabilizer and simultaneously adjusted the scale and position of the frame to ensure the shot looked smooth.

As instructed, we will need to color grade our production shoot using the following combinations:

  • Teal & Orange
  • Bluish (cold)
  • Greenish (cold)
  • Brownish (warm)
  • Desaturation, 50%-70%
  • Black & White, High Contrast
After the color correction process, I began color grading with adding adjustment layer to all clips to differentiate accordingly. I increased the temperature of this scene while adjusting its saturation and highlights respectively.

By applying the knowledge gained in week 2, I learned how to adjust the music and audio in the video effectively to make it like a trailer also input some transition effect.

Project 2B: TikTok / Insta Video Treatment

Proposal:

I went hiking with my parents at Setia Alam Community Trail near my house, which has a usual Sunday outing for us. However, this time I asked them to assist me by holding the camera for most of the wide shots and full shots. This collaboration allowed me to focus on being in the frame and capturing the scenic beauty of our hike from various angles, making the video more dynamic and visually appealing. Their help was invaluable in ensuring we got the best possible footage for my TikTok project.

After filtering all the videos, I added some animation between the transitions, added titles and layouts to enhance the visual appeal and make the video more engaging. I also incorporated the background music (BGM) that I had included in my proposal. These additions brought the video to life, making it more polished and enjoyable to watch.

Experience:
Filming this TikTok was an exciting and creative journey. Starting with the "Get Ready with Me" segment, I enjoyed showcasing my skincare routine and selecting the right products to highlight. The transition from home to hiking required careful planning and creativity to ensure it was seamless and engaging. The hiking segment was particularly enjoyable as I captured the natural beauty around me, which added a refreshing and adventurous vibe to the video. The final touch was adding a motivational quote, which felt meaningful and uplifting, perfectly wrapping up the entire concept.

Observation:
Throughout the filming of " Everything,Everywhere All at Once" with groupmates, I observed the importance of attention to detail and teamwork. Each scene and shots required different filming techniques and settings especially from art director, audio boomer lighting. which taught me how to adapt quickly and efficiently as a director of photography. I also noticed how crucial lighting and sound quality are in enhancing the overall visual and auditory appeal of the shooting production. Transitioning between scenes smoothly was a key challenge, but it also highlighted the significance of creative editing into trailer making the video cohesive and engaging.

Findings:
One of the main findings from this experience was the value of pre-planning. Having a clear storyboard and script helped streamline the filming process and made each step more manageable. I also discovered that incorporating different themes into one video can make content more dynamic and interesting for viewers. Additionally, the positive feedback and engagement from my audience reaffirmed the impact of combining personal interests with motivational content, making the video not only entertaining but also inspiring.
