My 3 Favorite Stop Motion Video:

Negative Space A Film by Tiny Inventions (Ru Kuwahata & Max Porter)

"Negative Space" is a masterful short film that brilliantly adapts Ron Koertge's poem into a visual narrative. Through this stop-motion animation, the film delves into the unhealthy relationship between a father and son, using the act of packing a suitcase as a metaphor for their bond. The film’s precision in detail like the suitcase and clothes flipping, combined with its ability to evoke deep emotional resonance with most of the family, makes it a standout piece. Its innovative transitions like travelling car into a zipped suitcase and use of scale enrich the storytelling, making it both relatable and profoundly moving despite its brief runtime.

I like its stop-motion animation is both expressive and grounded, featuring fantastical transitions that enhance its narrative. Despite not having human characters, it remains profoundly humanistic. The film’s story behind brought a meaningful theme which resonate most of the family that their relationship between parents and children.

Happy Birthday directed by MICHAELHICKOXFilms

"Happy Birthday" is a charming and humorous LEGO stop-motion animation that showcases the intricacies of event planning and preparation for a birthday celebration. The video is filled with hilarious scenes, from the setup of the party to the interactions between the LEGO characters. The twist at the end, where the birthday celebration turns out to be for the wrong friend, adds a delightful and unexpected comedic element. The use of color, lighting, and meticulous set design enhances the story's mood and immerses viewers in the narrative.

I liked it because of LEGOS ( my favourite toys) besides it masterfully combines humor, creativity, and technical skill in a delightful LEGO stop-motion animation. The video captures the fun and chaos of planning a birthday party with meticulous and engaging storytelling.

HUNGRY (clay animation) by RABBERT

The clay animation "HUNGRY" by RABBERT captivates me with its blend of whimsical storytelling and innovative stop-motion techniques. The narrative of a guy dealing with his mischievous, grumpy clay companion during breakfast is both humorous and endearing. The animation skillfully merges human-like emotions with clay figures, creating a delightful and relatable scenario.

I am drawn to "HUNGRY" because of its unique ability to evoke laughter and charm through simple yet expressive clay characters. The scene where the grumpy clay eat the cereal ahead of the owner giving him, then to be hilariously corrected by the owner, showcases both creativity and skill in stop-motion animation. This combination of humor, creativity, and human-like interaction makes "HUNGRY" a delightful and memorable viewing experience for me.

Preferred Medium
I would like to use LEGO to make a film. I have a lot of LEGO from my childhood, and creating a storyline with these pieces would bring a meaningful and nostalgic element to my project. Alternatively, I am also considering using plushie dolls for their unique texture and expressive potential.

Solo
I plan to work solo on this project, allowing for complete creative control and personal development in terms of preparation of whole production stage and enhance filming and editing skill. Nevertheless, I am open to the possibility of partnering with someone if a collaborative opportunity arises that aligns with my vision and goals.

Stop Motion Trial Shooting
In Week 10 and Week 11, we were assigned into groups to conduct stop motion shooting trial and editing using Adobe After Effect and Adobe Premiere Pro.

BTS of My Shooting:
In week 14, I have started my shooting after my storyboards were approved, I bought the equipment like tripod and clay. Before starting shooting, I tidied up the materials again set up a place at design studio for shooting, lighting, tripod and camera.

Next is the editing part. I noticed there was an odd clip so I decided to delete one image in Power Director apps. After that, I exported the video again and edited the brightness and transitions for several scenes in Capcut.

Next is the sound editing part so I ask my brother to voice over and collects all the files and put it into google drive. And then start to edit the background music and sound effect on Premiere Pro.

Experiences
Stop motion videos has been a highly enriching experience that demanded meticulous attention to detail and immense patience. Each frame required careful planning and execution, emphasizing the importance of precision in animation. My observation was that the process, though time-consuming, allowed for a deep dive into the fundamentals of movement and storytelling. The experience taught me the value of persistence and creativity, as each scene came to life through incremental adjustments. I found that the key to successful stop motion lies in maintaining consistency in character movements and expressions, which ultimately enhances the narrative and viewer engagement.

Observations
Through various exercises, I learned the importance of lighting, composition, and framing in telling a story through a single image. My observation was that photography isn't just about capturing moments but about conveying emotions and messages. The hands-on experience of shooting different scenes honed my ability to see the world through a more artistic lens. This module also highlighted the significance of pre-visualization and the creative process involved in planning and executing a shot that resonates with the audience.

Findings
Video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro was a journey of mastering technical skills and unleashing creative potential. The experience of piecing together footage, adding transitions, and fine-tuning audio elements was both challenging and rewarding. My observation was that effective editing is crucial for shaping the narrative and pacing of a video, making it more engaging and coherent. The process required a blend of technical proficiency and artistic intuition, allowing me to experiment with various styles and techniques. Through this, I found that the editor plays a pivotal role in enhancing the visual and emotional impact of a story, turning raw footage into a polished and compelling final product.
