Reflection
Experience:
Embarking on the journey of personal researching cultural sensitivity in Japanese weddings has been both enlightening and enriching. From studying the significance of attire to understanding the meticulous rituals involved, each aspect of Japanese weddings provided a profound insight into the cultural fabric of Japan. Following discussions with my groupmates, we collectively decided to explore the topic of Japanese ghost cultures. This decision emerged from our shared interest in delving deeper into the supernatural beliefs and folklore that permeate Japanese society. Transitioning from researching Japanese weddings to exploring Japanese ghost cultures has been a fascinating journey as this is new topic for me. I found myself captivated by the depth and complexity of Japanese folklore surrounding ghosts and spirits.
Throughout our collaborative project, our team showcased strong teamwork, dedication, and effective task delegation. From the initial stages of brainstorming sketches to decision of colour scheme to mock-up and the final execution of the video presentation. Each team member played a crucial role in contributing their skills and expertise. We fostered an environment of open communication and mutual respect, allowing for smooth collaboration and the exchange of creative ideas. Making the mock-up of Yo Bento was quite a fruitful learning as discuss on materials, crafting and design it with everyone's idea.
Observation:
Collaborating with my groupmates on the topic of Japanese ghost cultures offered valuable insights into the dynamics of group research and collaboration. Through discussions and brainstorming sessions, all of us having diverse perspectives and interpretations, we planned and distribute tasks evenly to accomplish all the task.Even though all of us are having very different routes to explore at Osaka but we manage to delegate task evenly with clear communication and tolerance. After visiting, we observed that there are many interconnectedness of folklore, history, and societal norms in shaping Japanese beliefs about the supernatural.
Throughout the project, we encountered challenges that tested our problem-solving skills and resourcefulness. One notable challenge was sourcing suitable materials for the bento box and deciding on the color scheme. We observed the significance of color in Japanese culture, particularly the traditional use of black and red for bento boxes. Additionally, we recognized how color tones can influence the appetizing appeal of food, prompting us to carefully consider our choices to enhance the presentation of Yo Bento.
Findings:
Our exploration mainly focused on how profound impact of supernatural beliefs on Japanese society. We discovered the background stories of supernaturals serve as a lens through which cultural anxieties, historical traumas, and societal values are expressed and processed. Moreover, we uncovered the role of ghost culture in influencing various aspects of Japanese life, from architecture and urban planning to entertainment and tourism. By delving into the intricacies of Japanese ghost cultures, we gained a deeper appreciation for the interplay between tradition, imagination, and collective memory in shaping cultural identities.
Through our collective efforts and observations, we arrived at several key findings. Firstly, effective teamwork is essential for project success, allowing us to pool our talents and resources to overcome challenges and achieve our goals. Secondly, we gained insight into the cultural significance of color choices, understanding why certain colors, such as black and red, are traditionally used in Japanese bento boxes. Lastly, we discovered the importance of considering color tones in food presentation, recognizing their impact on the overall appeal and enjoyment of the dining experience. These findings will inform our future projects and endeavors, guiding us to create meaningful and culturally resonant designs.
