Reflection
Experience:
My journey into typography commenced with a perception that it was a mere selection of fonts and historical research. Throughout this 14 weeks, after delving deeper the interesting part of type anatomy and details about each element of type form. The most fun part for me is crafting words with dynamic meanings such as Float,Bounce and Spring then transformed them into motion GIFs, and shaping text layouts for readability ignited a newfound excitement. In fact, designing our own fonts was an exhilarating venture, as we get to discovered different types of creation not just our own design but also get inspired by classmates at the meantime. The thrilling moment was utilised it in the creation of our Black and White posters , thereby is a rewarding and enriching process. I was not expecting a creativity exploration in this subject but end up a very fruitful learning as I gained very much knowledge on typography and how it can bring a profound impacts towards overall readability and
Observation:
Initially, I held the belief that fonts were indistinguishable. But through this journey, I discovered the depth within typefaces—grasping nuances such as classification, their optimal usage in diverse textual roles, and the significance of alignments. Typography isn't confined to design; it permeates daily life applications. Observing how kerning and tracking influence audience interpretation and comprehension of text meanings unveiled its pivotal role in effective communication.
Findings:
My perception of typography underwent a profound shift—I found it immensely engrossing. Evolving from a passive reader to an active creator, I comprehended the meticulousness required in text layout and font creation. It's a meticulous craft demanding thorough research and precision in every aspect. Crafting distinct text demands not only creativity but also attention to detail for kerning, tracking, and text size variations. Unexpectedly, this subject heightened my awareness of typography's omnipresence in everyday life—be it in reading materials or brand logos and signboards.
