PHOTOGRAPHY BASIC

PROJECT 1B - PART 2: Recoloring Black and White

In this project, there are two phases of the exercise. The first one, referred to as "Breakdown," involves applying color to the image of the grandpa using the brush tool. We need to selectively cover specific areas of the image and enhance the visibility of the face using blend modes, with "soft light" and "overlay" being the recommended options. This process requires us to create selections for various elements, including the face, hair, eyes, shirt, and lips. To make these selections, we can use the shortcut keys on other layers to add all the selections together. Once we have all the necessary selections, we can apply them to the background layer mask.

Once we have all the necessary selections, we can apply them to the background layer mask.

Exercise 2:

Regarding the second exercise, we will be working on coloring a black-and-white portrait using sample pictures as references. Here's the step-by-step process:

1. I started by selecting the skin color from the reference image using the MARQUEE TOOL. Once selected, COPY the chosen area.
2. Then paste the copied selection onto the black and white portrait.
3. I also used the EYEDROPPER TOOL to select the HIGHLIGHT, MIDTONE, and SHADOW colors from the hair reference image.
4. I applied these selected colors to the appropriate areas of the portrait by kept on repeating the process.
5. Lastly, add a layer mask to the new solid color which is the new background, and choose the desired background color. Set the appropriate BLENDING MODE for this layer.

This process will help to colorize the black-and-white portrait based on the reference images and achieve the desired result.
