PROJECT 1 / COLLAGE & DIGITAL IMAGING [20%]

INSTRUCTION :

PROJECT 1A:

  • Physical Collage (5%)

Upon receiving Mr. Fauzi's insightful feedback, it became evident that he held a particular fascination for my first collage concept, primarily because of its profound and meaningful expression of the key secrets behind beauty. This collage features a dynamic interplay of elements, incorporating images of Barbie doll portraits, a blend of black-and-white and vibrant colors, a key, a make-up pallet even the inclusion of butterflies.

In the initial iteration, I had positioned the Big Ben London Tower alongside these components, intending to convey an aesthetic connection. However, Mr. Hafiz, in his wisdom, suggested should infuse beauty-related elements into the collage, thereby establishing a more cohesive relationship with the overarching incorporate a palette of makeup eyeshadow colors, seamlessly intertwining the concept of beauty and its secrets within the composition.

Before the Adjustment :

DESCRIPTION:

Among all of the collages, Mr Fauzi preferred this one as the composition gains depth through the interplay of angles and white space among these elements. In this art piece, I aim to capture the view of a city's sunset scene, featuring two towering skyscrapers with a perspective of a light rail transit system emerging, and pedestrians strolling along the sidewalks.

After the Adjustment :

DESCRIPTION:

Once I applied the selective color feature to modify the color tone of the sun in the background, it transformed into an even more captivating and enchanting sight. The whole collage looks more harmonious.

Reflection

Throughout the journey of Exercise Part 1A, I have learned how to initiate creative collage work by utilizing resourceful visuals and collage materials sourced from a diverse array of recycled items, which included magazines, Uni Qlo catalogs, old newspapers, and novels. As for the Part 1B exercise, I have well-mastered the variations of pen tools, lasso tools, and layer masks to come out with a few digital collages, then made refinement and color adjustments to ultimately composite a more improvised final collage. Besides, this exercise actually enhanced my knowledge in skills and techniques of Adobe Photoshop to input an external object in a particular image and colorize the black-and-white portrait based on the reference images and achieve the desired result. For instance, I have mastered the skill-sets of reducing pixelation by using the noise removal feature and making it more constructive by adding the reflection in the water.
